Our Story.

Our Story.

Started 2006.
Established 2018.

Youth Inc. was founded in 2006 by our benefactor and Chairman, Spero Chapley.

For the first 10 years we focused on employment programs as a context for positive change. Gradually, however, we began to understand that young people needed more than a 3-week pre-employment program to discover their unique talents and how to express them in a meaningful work. So, we decided to start a school! 'How hard could that be?'... so we thought.

Spero and the Chapley family have made an enormous financial contribution to Youth Inc. over many years, and we thank them for their inspiration and unwavering support as we seek to develop our innovative school model.

A new
school
design.

Our aim is encapsulated in the famous R. Buckminster Fuller quote:

"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

Our ambition is to build an innovative school model that meets the needs of young people and who want to get excited about, and continue, their learning journey post their conventional school experiences.

Building
the aeroplane.

After 5 years of running our School, we are still 'building the aeroplane while we are flying it'. That is to say, we are adapting our school design and our learning model as we learn better ways to do things. While this was even more true when we opened our School back in early 2018, we are not afraid to change things. We do not want to fall into the same trap that many organisations and schools do. That is, doing things a certain way just because that's the way they have always been done. We are ready to change, just as much as our students.
