Learning Journey.

Learning Journey.

Up to 2 years.

Our full program is spread over 1-2 years and consist of projects, opportunities and workshops.

We provide transformational learning experiences, that support you to grow, to gain some important knowledge, attitudes and skills along the way - we call these Transformative Capacities - which are: Creativity, Collaboration, Leadership, Adaptability and Awareness.

Whilst we don't do subjects we do harness; passion, adventure, arts & media, active citizenship, design & tech and the world of work as launchpads for multi-disciplinary learning.

All our students are supported by Educators and 'Life Navigators' throughout their Youth Inc. journey.

From start to finish.

When you start anything new it’s normal to feel a bit anxious, but before you know it you will feel like our place is your place. We hope that you feel like it’s your second home. You will get a key to the door and the fridge is always full!

Toward the end you’ll wonder how the time passed so quickly! So many of our students say that they can’t believe how fast the time goes.

Our hope is that when our students leave us they know who they are; what their strengths, skills and values are (Identity), know where they are going (Direction) and have the ability to make empowering choices that are true to themselves (Agency) AND most importantly they are excited about the things that lay ahead.

6 ‘phases’. 18 months.

Our full program consists of 6 ‘phases’ spread over 18 months.

Each phase goes for 10 weeks PLUS 2 weeks of what we call ‘Recharge’ (which is what we do while other schools are on holidays).

Phases consist of projects, work ventures, and other learning experiences - supported by life-coaching, navigation and support services.

Every phase has a theme.

  • Phase 1: UnLearn

This introductory phase consists of three (3) mini-projects which are designed to explore any preconceptions that you may have about ‘school’ and learning. This phase also begins the process of challenging self-limiting beliefs and ‘unlearning’ those.

  • Phase 2: CoLab

This phase focuses on teamwork, communication and collaboration. Students initiate or select from a range of project opportunities to form small groups based on shared interests.

  • Phase 3: Passion

As the name implies, this phase is about passion. Students are encouraged to explore an individual interest and to design and implement a project that also meets the requirements of the Research Project component of the SACE.

  • Phase 4: Impact

In this phase, students explore issues of meaning and purpose. They are encouraged to consider those things that are important to them in relation to making a positive social impact.

  • Phase 5: The Quest

The Quest is designed as an inquiry-based learning experience based on the ‘Hero’s Journey’. Students go on both a metaphorical and literal journey whereby they co-design a learning experience involving a travel component, to transcend fears and barriers that might otherwise limit future opportunities.

  • Phase 6: Next

The name of this phase also speaks to its intention which is to engage students in the process of planning the ‘next’ steps in their lives, post-Youth Inc. This is less about a project, and more about researching, planning and connecting with future opportunities in further or higher learning, employment, and community engagement.

Graduation.

Each year, students design their own graduation event. Some have gone full ‘glamour’, others have been happier with something low-key. Whatever it is for you, it will be a celebration of effort and achievement.

Graduating from Youth Inc. is a significant achievement. It’s like getting a diploma for life. We want you to feel that it was rigorous and challenging, and something worth completing. Of course, you will get your SACE and VET certificates, but we hope that you take away something even more important. And that is the ability, confidence and belief that you can create a life that matters to you.

Part way through, you’ll start to feel like a ‘senior’, because the next Team will start before you finish. Don’t worry, we’ll explain how this all happens.

And then toward the end you’ll wonder how the time passed so quickly! So many of our students say that they can’t believe how fast the time goes. But by then you’ll have a clear idea where you’re going, and about the exciting things that lay ahead.
